UNC-Greensboro says it is investing almost $1 million in new security systems and procedures to protect campus safety.
Classes at the Triad’s largest public university start today, and according to an announcement from the school, planning teams have been studying campus security issues for the past 18 months.
"While we hope that a crisis or emergency will never occur at UNCG, the university has made emergency preparedness a priority," according to Bruce Griffin, assistant vice chancellor for environmental safety.
Among the measures already in place are systems to alert the campus community to emergencies via Web sites, email, text message, pop-up alerts and RSS feeds. Several campus emergency phones have been equipped with sirens and public address systems.
